As a high school Fitness for Life teacher, I use heart rate monitors to help students understand the importance of heart rate to improve their personal fitness. In this session I will demonstrate how we use IHT heart rate monitors at our school. Participants will have the opportunity to try them out and see how simple it is to use them every day in their classroom. You will be able to see how they are used from both the student view and the teacher view. This is not an advertisement for IHT, that is just the heart rate monitors we use.

With a monthly adventure challenge paired with recreation and education-based curriculum, this program aims to encourage students and their families to spend more time outside.

This presentation will focus on using Pranayama, Asana and Savasana as tools to assist ourselves and ours students in self management, emotional control and a greater sense of equanimity or balance in life . We will explore the benefits of breath and experience several different breathing techniques. We will experience poses and postures, learning methods to adjust or modify to allow all to experience the positive flow of energy created through movement. We will put into practice the tenets of meditation using this opportunity to rest, digest and rejuvinate.

GROOVE is a dance, wellness, and fitness modality that feels a bit like a structured dance party. It celebrates the joy of moving, encourages unique movement choices, honors individual needs, and brings groups together through playful dance interactions. It is an excellent inroad for non-dancers as facilitators insist you “can’t get it wrong,” while also being a dance-lover’s dream as they get to play with the simple steps in their own way. This highly accessible dance form is new to the Utah scene, with Melanie as the only certified GROOVE facilitator in the tri-state area of Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming.

PaddleSmash is a game that brings together pickleball and round net. It is a quick supplement to add in a skills unit if you don't have enough space for your whole class to play pickleball. Racket skills and ball control is a must in this game but can be quickly taught in a few shorts days. A lifetime sport for families and fun!!
